What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy is an area of healthcare that supports meaningful engagement in life and enables a person to do the things they want and need to do every day. Occupations are anything that a person does, and can include activities related to self-care, productivity and leisure. Over the course of a person’s life, a variety of factors can impact one’s ability to engage in occupations such as disability, injury, mental illness, disease or change in life circumstances.

An occupational therapist (OT) is a regulated health professional who works with clients to explore opportunities to shift their own skills and understanding, their environment and the occupation itself to support success and quality of life.
